Italy 2019 - Florence Day 6

Italy 2019 - Florence Day 6

After a bit of a lie in, we enjoyed pastries and coffee for breakfast, followed up with some Italian dark chocolates!

Our first destination of the day was Giotto’s Bell Tower. We had to climb 414 steps to get to the top and it was very narrow like the last tower we climbed in Rome! But the views were great.

After that, we went into The Baptistery of St. John, which was built 1059-1128. Unfortunately, lots of the walls were covered over due to restoration work. The ceiling was impressive, though!

For lunch, we went to a little cafe hidden in a department store and had avocado on toast and oat-cacao pancakes! For dessert, we gorged on some gelato!

We then headed to Florence’s cathedral, the Duomo, and climbed the dome, which was 463 steps! It was even narrower and more claustrophobic than the other towers. But again, the views were spectacular. So, it was worth it.

After changing back at the B&B, we stocked up on fresh bread, olives, and other savoury and sweet snacks for a mammoth picnic as we watched the sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo, which offers views across the city.

To round off our evening, we took a walk through the city, soaking in the atmosphere. Florence is now one of our favourite places
