Italy 2019 - Cinque Terre Day 8

Following a watermelon breakfast in our Airbnb, we boarded a (very busy and hot!) train to the northernmost village of the five villages that make up the Cinque Terre, Monterosso al Mare.
Once there, we stopped off for a coffee and some olive focaccia by the beach.
After that, we trained it to the next village, Vernazza. This one was much prettier and more interesting with its colourful houses.
There is a 12km coastal hike joining all 5 villages which we had read about. However, a lot of it is currently closed for repairs due to recent landslides! We spoke to the information office and they confirmed that the route to the next village, Corniglia, via the Azure Trail, was still OK to hike so we decided to give it a go! It took about 1.5 hours and was mostly uphill, but it was cool to see the trail and the spectacular views.
When we arrived at Corniglia, we found some gelato to cool down with!
After taking in the sights, we caught the train to the second-smallest village in the Cinque Terre, Manarola (pictured below) followed shortly after by the most southern and final village, Riomaggiore before heading back to the apartment to freshen up and eat some pasta!
In the evening, we wandered back into town, stopping on the way for our second gelato of the day! We enjoyed a drink (and free snacks!) at a bar at the marina and another bar in town, before heading home for the night.
